How does the Independent Sales Representative program work?

Our Independent Sales Reps are expected to make contact with their social networks, both online and in person, to let people know about Tutor.com. We provide you with 2 options for making a sale.

Option 1:
We will give you a pair of special promotion codes that allow people to try Tutor.com for free or nearly free. Your job is to spread the codes around, give demonstrations, and encourage people to try Tutor.com for themselves. You will have access to different pieces of marketing collateral and are empowered to create and use personally created materials with prior approval from Tutor.com.

Option 2:
We give you access to our Tutor.com Fundraiser module and marketing materials for you to use in connecting with PTA's, PTO's, and other education focused organizations who typically use fundraisers to earn money for supplies and special events. This turnkey effort financially rewards both the organization and the independent sales rep while exposing students to our award winning service. The fundraiser effort is our focus for the 2008-2009 school year.

You will be able to use both of these options as you promote Tutor.com.

Our most successful reps have children in grades 7-12 who use the service regularly and who can speak personally about the benefits of Tutor.com. We are currently placing interested reps on our waiting list.

How exactly does the money work? How will I get paid?

Anytime someone signs up for a Tutor.com Account (using one of your special promotion codes) and then becomes a Tutor.com customer, we will compensate you at a rate of 50% of all their purchases for their first year as a Tutor.com customer, up to $300 of spending per customer.

What comes in my Start-Up Kit?

Your kit contains everything you need to be a successful Tutor.com Independent Sales Rep including:

• A detailed sales manual with an FAQ Sheet
• Trial Cards
• Your personal promotion codes (to write on your cards and otherwise distribute)
• User Manuals to give to people who try Tutor.com
• A special one-time use code good for more than 100 minutes of Tutor.com, so that you can explore our service first-hand
• Access to online Orientation modules and ongoing tips and ideas
• Access to an exclusive online community for Tutor.com ISRs

Do I have to pay anything?

Yes. You will be required to send us a $99 deposit that we return to you as soon as you make your third sale in three months. (The three month clock starts ticking after you have been accepted and have received your sales materials.) The reason we require this deposit is that it costs us a lot of time and money to create your account, run your background check and send your Start-Up Kit (which is worth more than $300), and we can afford to do that only for people who are serious about spreading the word about Tutor.com, as we hope you are.

How much money can I expect to make?

The amount that you will earn will correlate to the number of people who try Tutor.com using your promotion codes. It is likely that 25% of parents who try Tutor.com at your urging will become Tutor.com customers. (That percentage will be much higher when you do in-person demonstrations for those parents, and let them see for themselves that Tutor.com is incredibly convenient and a tremendous value.) Families that become Tutor.com customers generally spend between $25 and $600 per year with us, depending on how many kids they have, how much help their kids need in which subjects, how motivated their kids are to learn, and how much the parents can afford.

To estimate your earnings you should estimate how many parents you think you will demonstrate to each month; multiply by your expected conversion ratio; multiply by their average yearly spend, divided by two (your half); and then multiply by the number of months you plan to do demonstrations in. By way of example, if you will demonstrate Tutor.com to 10 families each month, half will convert into customers who spend $200 at Tutor.com (earning you $100 each), and you will do Tutor.com demonstrations for 9 months during the year, you are likely to earn $4,500 over the course of the year. (10 families X 50% conversion X $200/2 X 9 = $4,500)

Is it OK if I currently work as an independent sales rep for another company such as Mary Kay or Pampered Chef?

Yes. We love that you have previous experience with this type of marketing. So long as those other companies are not selling online tutoring, you are welcome to represent them as well as us. In fact, you may find that working for them and for us helps you sell more of both.
